QPR told to take a running jump!

You have to laugh! Fernandes keeps giving it the "Big I am", talking about how he is going to flash the cash and turn QPR into a major force in football, but when it comes to the crunch, well it's an all too familiar whimper. The latest publicity stunt is to offer for Tomkins. Now never mind that our JT is not what QPR need at the moment - Faye would probably be a better short term bet - the joke is the sum offered for a player who will, in time, play for England.

£3m for James Tomkins? They had as much chance of landing him at that price as they had of signing Scott Parker! It looks good in the headlines, of course, and it winds up the Davids no doubt, but if anybody thought we would part at that price, then they know sweet FA about football!

So, who is Fernandes going to bid for next, and how much? He's after a couple of Spurs players of course. Expect a £2m offer for Pavlyuchenko and a £3m bid for Jermaine Defoe any time soon. The offers won't be accepted, of course, but Fernandes will talk big and fool the Rs fans for a little bit longer. Then Beckham will be linked with the club again even though he has confirmed again that he has no intention of paying tax at 50%.

No player will be safe. Fernandes will be after them all, like Noo-Noo on LSD sucking up anything in his path. But will he pay money, real money, big money? Probably not. The secret is to get the publicity, not the player - that could be a very expensive business!

Who has he "bought" so far? Arsenal discard Traore for an undisclosed fee - Fernandes didn't want the fans to know how little was paid up front no doubt; and Newcastle outcast Joey Barton who cost, well nothing actually; and Aston Villa reject Luke Young for, well another undisclosed low fee; and Sunderland misfit Anton Ferdinand for yet another undisclosed fee; and Wright-Phillips for, surprise, surprise, yet another undisclosed fee, which probably amounts to the guy's wages for three years.

The Wright-Phillips signing says it all. Who else tried to sign him? Big spending Bolton, Stoke and Wigan all of whom probably wanted him on loan with Unreal City still paying 50% of the guy's wages!

Now I'm not knocking the signings here. Barton, Young and Wright-Phillips all represent astute business and Anton and Traore are not complete mugs. Full marks to Warnock for doing Redknapp style business! But my point is that for all his self publicity, Fernandes has not actually shelled out any real money yet. And I very much doubt he ever will!

There's talk of a £15m war chest for January which, funnily enough, is the figure quoted year in and year out for West Ham. How much of that ever materialised? Three or four million tops! The Grrrs are ranting about this article below but let's see who is right at the end of January shall we? Defoe to QPR? Really?

Snore. Yet again another ill-informed pointless article from someone who, to use their own words, knows "sweet FA about football". This latest 'blog' absolutely smacks of jealousy. To be fair though, you do have a lot to be jealous of; you've got fools for owners, a mediocre squad and a club that is still crumbling financially. The grass really does look greener on this side. Keep writing though, just reminds us of how well we've got it compared to you. Cheers!

So what have I got wrong - factually I mean. Instead of ranting, how about dealing in facts? Have I forgotten anybody? Do you think £3m is a realistic offer for Tomkins?

Stinks of Venkys to me. I was always worried about Tony taking over West Ham because he isn't hugely wealthy in terms of football club ownership.

For what he wants. he needs major investment and with all his publicity stunts, i expect that's exactly what he's trying to get. The fact is, QPR is a terribly small club and no one else actually wants to buy into it.

Now i don't dislike QPR, far from it, i have lots of friends who are supporters and i'd love to play them in the EPL next season. But there's no doubt this £3m Tomkins bid is an utter wind up from Fernandes and Warnock, both of whom have some reason to dislike West Ham.

On a side note, directed to 17:44 - we, West Ham, have nothing whatsoever to be jealous of, i promise you that. We are not some club who has been in the wilderness for 10 years, we are a Premier League club who are mearly re-adjusting themselves in a lower league with the aim to return to the PL a stronger force. No one is bitter about relegation and we are all thoroughly enjoy our season in the Championship and are looking forward to ultimately returning to where we belong :)

Envy is not a very pleasant thing to have but you seem to have it in bucket loads.Mr Fernandes is a good man and i like many Q.P.R fans are very happy to have him on board.I think he will do great things for our club now and in the future not like the couple of muppets in charge of West Ham.Was £3m actually offered for Tompkins or could it be silly paper talk and even if we were to offer that sum how much do you think he is worth? Why dont you just worry about your Championship football team and get a life.

You can be pretty sure the wages being paid to these newcomers are not insignificant however and that's got to come from somewhere...

Anonymous said...

What is your obsession with QPR about? In comes a Chairman who has signed quality proven Premiership players. Who cares what they cost? Ultimately he is sinking money into a club losing money and we love him for it. He has ambition and has delivered plenty in his short time. The fact we're linked with Tomkin is probably more do with his agent trying to get him a move away from WH or the club seeking to raise some cash than QPR making a bid. Don't believe everything you read, because, just like your article, most of it is crap. t

Hammersfan said...

1809, how do you think your wage bill compares to ours? I suspect ours is higher and we are in the Championship. You are right though, the wage bill has grown, but the players will be offloaded if you go down. It's a reasonable business model: pay next to nothing to sign them, allow them to leave if you go down, pay them big whilst still in the top division.

What you've got wrong is talking about 'facts'. An undisclosed fee could be anything - you don't know how much each one would be any more than we do, and furthermore, your 'facts' about Fernandes are purely bitter opinions because you wanted him to take over West Ham.

The FACTS are that he's come in, changed the club around, allowed Warnock to make marvellous signings given the circumstances and looks set to revamp the club from the bottom up starting with our youth system - something a hammers fan should actually appreciate.

You don't deal in facts, and you never have. You just blather on with so much blatant jealousy that each and every one of your blogs absolutely reaks of it from start to finish.

Each of those signings has shown themselves to be pretty good players - Luke Young is consitantly excellent, Traore is young yet still shows brilliance such as the cross for Heidar's equaliser at Stoke as just one example, SWP adds pace and a work ethic similar to Jamie Mackie's, Ferdinand will be better than his brother and has only been set back of late by this pathetic racism row - even Gabbidon has played well throughout most of the campaign so far.

It just makes me frustrated that a blinkered individual like you can't see the wood for the trees, and can't see the massive positives coming from Loftus Road because you're so consumed with jealousy! Just get over it!!

Tomkins - for all your plaudits is, at the end of the day, a Championship player! I rate him, and even signed him for my FM2012 team but just because he plays for the MIGHTY WEST HAM doesn't automatically entitle him to a £10m uplift on a standard fee for a 2nd tier centre half - so yes it is realistic! Assuming we even bid at all - something you fail to even consider most of the time is the possibility that the media might be making up stories - of course that never happens though does it.

Christ, I've never known anyone to bang on so much about another team the way you do, it's so boring. If you actually made a half decent point every once in a while I might give you some credit, but everything you say is absolute conceited drivel with about as much basis in FACT as the Sun has when discussing politics.

Worry about YOUR team please.

Hammersfan said...

You wants facts? Anton had a year left on his contract and was going to walk away on a free. Top dollar price £2m. Better than Rio? Yeah, when Rio has retired Anton might be marginally better!

Luke Young is 32. We were linked with him last year on a free. Top dollar price £500,000.

Wright-Phillips was costing City £105,000 a week in wages. You got him for nothing to get him off the wage bill.

Barton - well documented he cost nothing.

Traore: was shit for Arsenal last season. You may have paid £1m up front with further money based on future appearances.

So what does that lot add up to? £3.5m?

I say that were astute signings, the issue is whether Fernandes is bankrolling big signings or not. He hasn't so far!

im sorry but is this a west ham blog? I used to enjoy reading all the posts on here on my lunch break etc etc but recently all these post seem to been QPR related? I'd understand if you made post relating to many other teams and not just one team that isn't even the same f**king league as us!!!! Stick to west ham in future chump

Hammersfan said...

I'm sorry but doesn't Tomkins play for West Ham? Chump! 66 articles so far in November, and 8 are related to QPR, including this one!

Anonymous said...

West ham fans, you would love to be in QPR's position right now.

Anonymous said...

yes 8 too many if you ask me! i don't give a flying f**k about QPR i'd understand if they were in the same league and they were where southhampton are so we can actually relate to them but no there in another league and there having fun in the premier league and haven't even looked down in the championship since they moved up so why are you making us look like pathetic, jealous fans who complain about where they are when that is exactly where we a striving to be this season! enough with the doom and gloom okay we're doing fine in this league, the who point of this year was to get out of the championship regardless of the style of football, what young players we try out or who the hell is sitting in the managers seat. As long as we are in the top two of the table you have no reason to type out the same depressing drivle and be a happy hammer!!!!

I love how last season QPR were in the championship and couldnt say sh*t about west ham. We were in the prem for 5 years they are going back down after one and yet they apparently have the right to look down on us. I would put a bet on west ham beating qpr in a friendly. And Based on your theory anon last season proves tomkins is a prem player and half your squad is a championship squasd

MedwayR said...

You'd be very lucky to get more than £3m for Tomkins at the moment in my opinion. As for the QPR signings, who did you expect Fernandes to sign, we can't just go from signing the likes of Dyer & Gabbidon on free transfers to signing players for tens of millions, same as Man City had to buy the likes of Santa Cruz to take them up a level before they could attract the likes of Aguero. We are progressing, and that is down to Fernandes & Bhatia, that is all that matters, how about giving Fernandes a bit more time than the last 5mins of the transfer window before making judgement. Good luck for the season, hope to see West Ham in the prem sooner rather than later.

this seems to be a lot of old drivvel

BubblesWestLondon said...

Hammersfan, you really need to move on from Tony Fernandez. West Ham are where they are and QPR are where they are. Deal with your own issues and stop being such a bitter bill. TF will do a great job at QPR, we missed out, grow up and let it go.

GFD said...

Facts.
Rangers paid approx 6.5mill for SWP
2M for Anton.

Trust me on this, they will spend big again in Jan.

It's not just Fernandes, the Mittals are backing the transfers.

Now they have money.

New stadium in the future, these are no idle promises.

Mate, all those players you mention are better than anthing you have to currently offer. If you want to talk about tight chairman check out the last miserable regime at the R's. Since Fernandes has taken over things have been like a dream in comparison. If there's a club that knows all about s*** owners, trust me its us. Alright early door and all that but so far so good. Regarding this Tomkins anyway, who said its even for real. The noises coming from Loftus Road seem to suggest were afer proven premiership players which basically, he is not.

Anonymous said...

You don't offer any evidence to support your claims tomkins is worth more than £3m either - he isn't btw. He was part of your woeful defence last season and is now playing better at a lower level. For comparison Scott Dann only went for £5m and he is far more proven at prem level and had a number of teams tracking him which drove up the price.

Anonymous said...

Qpr fan.
little man you have a lot of jelousy in you. its not really about the price of players its about getting the right players for your club and he has done that. abd what you west ham supporters and a few qpr supporters have forgotten is fernandes isn't the only one paying money for these so called 'big players' coming in. lakshmi mittal is one of the richest man in the world and he holds more than %30 of the club so therefore i wouldn't say big names aren't gonna come because believe it or not they will. talks of a new stadium AND what you need to remember if tomkins is worth more than 3m then how comes west ham got relegated last time i checked it was because their defence was absoloute SHIT!

As a publicist by profession I'm trying to work out how signing a promising defender from a Championship club is a PR stunt to grab national media attention and sweeten fans? If he wanted to get publicity he could put in a bit for a Gary Cahill or a dropped Vidic to get a decent headline to show he was trying to mix it.

The unpallatable fact is that in the time Fernandes purchased the majority stake in the club and the subsequent 12 days before the transfer window closed we signed 5 players and had a few concrete big cash offers - Bellamy, Crouch, Parker, Bassong - that didn't come off.

goven we were 18th and have moved up to 9th I think Fernandes backing Warnock as he said he would to his word has paid off so far with more promised in January.

Stoke spent £22m on 3 players and have gone into freefall so maybe Fernandes and Warnock know what they are doing. If QPR don;t sign Tomkins I'm sure we'll manage - especially as other investors include the Mittals worth around £17bn. See ya.

Anonymous said...

The key fact you've ignored of course is that Fernandes has said none of this. He's never mentioned Tomkins, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe or anybody else. It's a combination of newspapers putting out of favour players together with clubs looking in their positions, and agents leaking nonsense to the press to get their client's name out there and help them either get a new deal at their current club or a big move.

Still, don't let that get in the way of yet another anti-QPR rant.

PM24 said...

Tomkins is a proven premiership centre half. Even throughout that dismall relegation last season, he received good reviews. Regular England under 21 starter, he will no doubt play for the senior national team in future. In my opinion he's a class act. £3 million is so far short of his value and anyone with half a football brain will know that.

Anonymous said...

"Fernandes keeps giving it the "Big I am", talking about how he is going to flash the cash and turn QPR into a major force in football"

Really? please can you find the exact quotes 'cos I can't remember Fernandes giving it large as you suggest. He talks with sense and trying to be practical as well as ambitious. I don't recall him ever saying anything along the lines of Sam "Cardiff will be the new Barcelona" Hamman or Mo "Fulham will be the Man utd of the south" Al-Fayed.

Hammersfan said...

£6.5m for SWP? No way! You should have asked for a BOG6F and land the other six dwarfs whilst you were about it! How many pounds per inch is that? Don't believe a word of it personally!

West Ham seem obsessed with QPR these days.

All we've heard is that we're going to swap divisions at the end of the season.

That might happen, it might not happen but genuinely QPR will never, ever give the slightest toss about West Ham. An average club in the shittest bit of London.

All West ham fans seem to think they are the dogs bollocks. They have a standard team, crap owners and a useless manager. Championship team, not Premiership, they all think we will only be in this league for one season, which is what all my mates said at the start but now admit we have massive change to stay up for many seasons. So worry about West Spam at the moment and your current position.

duncsqpr said...

I always remember the final match of the season when QPR were relegated from the Premiership, which was against West Ham and we beat you I think 3-0. I remember a Hammers fan I knew gloating smugly because even though we'd won, and won well, we were still going down. So many years later, and the irony isn't lost on me that in the season that QPR gain promotion again, West Ham get relegated. This is dedicated to that Hammers fan. Jog on!

RexHammer said...

For all the West Ham fans that are saying "this is a West Ham blog..talk about West Ham" This post is quite clearly about a West Ham player...called James Tomkins, you might know him. Whilst I agree that he posts about QPR too much, it is his blog and he can do what he wants.

As for QPR fans. I don't understand why you think we are jealous. I am over the moon about us going down. We cleared out a lot of deadwood, dramatically reduced the wage bill and we got in some good players.

I am actually enjoying our winning streak in the championship, us West Ham fans haven't had a lot to cheer about for ages, and it would have been the same this season if we stayed up.

We got relegated and now we can start from fresh and build a stronger squad. We have been given money to spend in Jan, and if we get promoted, Sam will have 25m to spend.

Spot on Rex, this post involves Tomkins an he's our player, and a popular one at that. It's been a breath of fresh air clearing out some of the pathetic players we had! Upson, dyer, Behrami, boa morte, Spector, kovac to name a few. Feels like we have started fresh, albeit having to do it in the championship. Qpr remind me of west ham a few years back, being linked to all sorts of exciting players, but in the end only attracting those without a club or who are looking to revive there career. Time will tell if Fernandez is a fraud, but in my honest opinion I wouldn't want him in charge of west ham.
