You can’t buy that” & “Money Can’t Buy You Love” – New songs for Chelsea Blues.

John Terry’s recent quote to the media after beating West Ham, “You can’t buy that” may have come back to bite him on his proverbial backside.

Unfortunately for him, you can’t buy a Champions League final either, one of the most expensive teams in Europe tried their utmost to intimidate the referee, and at times it looked like an Olympic diving competition, the Chelsea players displayed arrogance to the point of presuming that they had a divine right to be in the final.
Of course the reason Chelsea lost The game was because of bad refereeing, and match fixing by UEFA, sound credible? It’s a big claim to make… Arsene Wenger is perhaps one of the few managers that doesn’t, regularly, blame the referee when his team loses, the same can’t be said about Chelsea. The sign of a great champion is gracious in victory and defeat, but this sight is becoming far too common in football and with particular teams, you don’t see child like tantrums in a rugby or tennis final, do you?

So there was one clear cut penalty claim when Malouda was bundled inside the penalty area, but let’s not forget the same happened against Henry in the first leg with the same outcome - no penalty. The other penalty appeals were very tenuous indeed, as for the ‘hand ball’ claim, the ball was rocketed towards the Barca player, he turned his back to the ball and it hit him near the top of his arm, is this a handball? It all smacks of desperation, Anelka commented that there is a huge pressure on players to win every game. If people are appealing for a penalty for the Anelka, Abidal incident, the latter being sent off, it was clearly not a penalty let alone a foul, consequently Barca had to play a third of the match with ten men – now that’s what I call an injustice! And to their credit Barca accepted it without verbally abusing the referee, instead they fought like champions and well the rest is history, as we know Iniesta scored a scorcher in the last minute of the game, every bit as good as Essien’s first half goal. Some people have commented on the incompetence of the referee, but let us not forget that it’s a game of two halves, or in this case two legs, and Barca came into the match with a slight disadvantage of an away game, but with a huge advantage of having no goals scored against them at home from the first leg, hence a goal on the night would put them in the driving seat - who’s fault was it that Chelsea played an unimaginative stifling game instead of an attacking one in the first leg, putting them in a vulnerable position?

Barcelona had 65% possession overall, and tried to play the beautiful game as it should be played: the attacking, passing game on the deck. I think from a neutral’s point of view Barcelona versus Man United will be a dream final, two positive attacking teams with bags of creativity and amazing goal scoring talent. Although many whinge about him I have to agree with Platini - who wants to endure a deja vu of last year’s premier league teams playing each other in the final again? After all we want to watch less familiar European teams fight it out for the ultimate prize in football, don’t we? Although I’m sure many Chelsea fans won’t share that sentiment.

The Beatles once sang that ‘money cant buy you love’, but try telling that to Abramovitch! I’m sure we’re all aware, there are many things that money can’t buy, but try as they did, testing the referee’s resolve by intimidation in order to win a game they were clearly in danger of being outclassed in, the referee would not budge and couldn’t be bought. Maybe John Terry’s quote is most fitting for these moments: “you can’t buy that”.

One of the pitfalls of the Internet is that it gives a voice to risible articles, authored by nobodies who would not merit even a junior position in a professional writing environment.
Unhappily for readers, search engines throw up these dire offerings and expose the tripe of the untalented to unsuspecting news seekers.
Sad.

I'm a West Ham fan and sick of reading the drivle written on this site, I thought it was a WHU blog but it seems to be a mouth piece for someone to have a pop at any other teams misfotune, quite sad

I think Hotshot's got a point, most of the press is saying that it was the referee's fault, when maybe it's time for Chelski to look at themselves...

The writer damns Chelsea for trying to buy the trophy, then says his dream final is watching a team that has one of the most expensively-assembled forward lines in the entire history of football. Does he not recall what Rooney, Ronaldo and Berbatov (to name but three) cost?
As for Barcelona's performance at Stamford Bridge, they did not achieve one single on-target shot in 90 minutes. Zero. Not a single one. Yet the author praises their attacking prowess. Laughable.
It's hard to imagine the kind of life exeriences that must be suffered in order to form a mindset of such utter banality. Why waste our time with such drivel?

Hammersfan says: "After all we want to watch less familiar European teams fight it out for the ultimate prize in football, don’t we?"

Man. Utd v Barcelona. Now there are two less familiar names. Thanks to writers like Hammersfan, our football-reading lives are enriched beyond measure. Let's hear more from this genius soon!

Anon 17.40, Barca outplayed Chelsea in the first leg, and in the second held their own. Have Chelsea beaten Man U 6-2 as Barca did against Real Madrid? Have Chelsea beaten a team like Bayern Munich 4-0 recently? Barca and Man U at least have a history, and have earned their way to where they are - Chelsea on the other hand are a fantasy league team bought by a playboy villian, who neglects his little (player) brats while he keeps changing their manager...

From a neutrals point of view I think ManU vs Barca is a much more appealing game to watch. ManU and Chelski have tended to be a bit on the dour side with both teams cancelling eachother out.
In Barca and ManU you have 2 of the best attacking teams in Europe. Of course having said that it will now end up being a 0-0 grind settled with penalties!
Were Chelski a little hard done by last night? Yes
Do their players have a right to behave toward the referee in the manner they did? No
Football should learn from rugby in how players treat referees.

Hammersfan: "I think from a neutral’s point of view Barcelona versus Man United will be a dream final, two positive attacking teams with bags of creativity and amazing goal scoring talent."

Well, when it comes to finals, semi-finals or even simply QUALIFYING to take part in the Champions League, you will ALWAYS be a neutral observer.
That's because your own team, West Ham United, has played only as many Champions League games as Sid's Delicatessen football team that plays at Wormwood Scrubs every Sunday. Zero. True.

THE REEREE WAS FIXED?
Are you out of your tiny mind, Chelsea were very hard done by, the ref was rubish but not fixed as you put it!!!

I swear the referee was a Barcelona supporter, I mean how did he have the nerve to make those decisions in front of 38000 blues fans...

Life of Iron said...

I have no idea how he didn't blow for at least one pen, but he also sent a Barca player off which on seeing the replay I though was very harsh aswell

Apparently the referee had to smuggled out of the country because of some chelsea thug death threats, how sick is that.

'morning all. Just to add a little levity to the discussion ......

A lady, engaged in the oldest profession, who happens to be a Chelsea fan, has tattoos of Frank Lampard and John Terry on the inside of her thighs.

She says to a client that if he can identify the footballers he will get a freebie.

The guy thinks for a while and responds, "I don't know who the two ugly buggers are on the outside but the one with the curly hair and big lips has got to be Didier Drogba."

oohh nasty...

I wondered if I should delete the joke on racist grounds but realised, on reflection, it wasn't a race thing, it's just that Drogba truly is the complete c***!

My husband says that you're absolutely right. Not a jot of racism in it. He thought you'd pick up the subtlety of it. LOL.

Lady and lord Gruntfuttock, where is your manor...?

Lord & Lady G said...

In ancient times our manor formed what was Gruntfuttock itself - it was a little to the south of Gruntfuttock North. Today it is better known as Plaistow.

Currently, we are next door to the 'therapeutic' massage facility in Tunmarsh Lane, just down the road from the Greengate of which we have a more recent family connection going back nearly two centuries - a female ancestor used to be at the core of the entertainment in there most evenings.

The Greengate has had a few incarnations over the years but in the modern era we still often go there, spending Saturdays evenings upstairs. Towards midnight our 'manner' tends to disappear entirely until late Sunday when the effects begin to wear off.

Unfortunately, from about 10 pm the music becomes exceedingly difficult to hear; such is the cacophany of the wheezing, the grunting and the groaning. There again, it's all part of the fun; isn't it?

It will be a late start tonight as today's big game starts later. However, if the 'ammers are able to well 'futtock' those scouse gits, I'm sure we'll be able to make up for lost time - can we expect to see you there?

Peter Cook? Now there's a name not to forget. He was a member of that comedic duo with Dudley Moore, wasn't he? A very photogenic member if I recall correctly.

My member is very photogenic also - would you like me to forward you one?
